Greater Good Initiative - Sequencing the sustainable secrets of seaweed

Local production services in Brazil for a seaweed sustainability documentary.

Project Overview: A Brazilian research consortium is unlocking the genetic secrets of Kappaphycus alvarezii, a seaweed with vast potential for food security, sustainability, and the global blue economy. With support from Illumina’s Agricultural Greater Good Initiative grant, scientists in Rio de Janeiro are sequencing its genome to advance aquaculture, carbon sequestration, and biomolecule innovation.

Our Role in the Production: We provided local production support in Rio de Janeiro and Paraty for the 360 Digital Studios crew (Brian Bentz – Producer, Robert L. Mickles – DoP), who were commissioned by Illumina and Pure Cinema to film this mini-documentary. We assembled a skilled local crew and supplied lighting, grip, and movement equipment, along with a top-tier Cooke Anamorphic cinema lens kit. Additionally, we managed all logistics and production needs, ensuring a smooth and efficient filming process.
